Myth of Average - 3 main points
The Adjustable Seat

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=$eBmyttcfU4

  • Performance depends on your fit in the cockpit
  • Designing one cockpit to fit all
  • No such thing as an average pilot
  • accomodate cockpit for extremities of pilots (flexibel cockpit)
  • Results are 'getting worse' but what has changed?
  • Needs for an adjustable classroom
  • average is designed for nobody
  • designing curriculum for the average students (which does not exist)
  • Average destroys talent.
  • What is usally being tested in a class is reading assessment
  • Is flexible learning exensive
  • The answer is the use of technology
  • Is there no need to teach reading, writing and arithmetic
  • Nurturing individual potential by providing the means to access knowledge when reading is low but interest and motivation is high
  • ban average in education
  • close to enquiry based learning and homeschooling

    1. OK. There is a seat that is made for the average person that doesn't exist. In education it is the curriculum and teaching strategy. The adjustable seat fits all and is designed to be flexible from something that was rigid in design.
On reflection, I have to be very honest. I have been in the buisness of making lots of different seats for a variety of students. I work with a team to develop a program specifically matched to that student based on their profile. Unfortunately, it has often been based on their cognitive profile and not particularly their learner profile (which can be quite different).
I have taken an active part in differentiation which has helped adjust the seat for many but not all.
I can only say what i would like my adjustable seat to be. After this course, I think it would be trying to get AT into the hands of students in my school (particularly grade 9) so that learning is more accessible to them.
      Simon
